Interior Design Trends To Look Out For In 2018

If you want to get ahead of the crowd in regards to interior design, then we have some exciting news for you! 2017 gave us some wonderful trends, as well as a few surprises. Some of those trends will continue throughout 2018, although many of them have changed or evolved. You also have trends that have been replaced entirely by fresh, exciting concepts.

Taken as a whole, there is a lot about 2018 that is worth getting excited about! Old aesthetics are poised to make a big comeback this year. At the same time, there are a number of new ideas that are well worth exploring.

2018 Interior Design Trends

We are still pretty early in the new year. To be sure, there is more than enough time to implement some new home décor ideas for the interior of your home. Whether you want to make one or two simple changes or transform your home entirely, here are the trends that we think will demand the bulk of your attention:

The return of authenticity. Antiques are always popular on one level or another. However, over the course of this coming year, we think antiques, as well as authenticity in general, are going to make a serious comeback. Think about the thrift stores, estate sales, and similar opportunities that are going on in your area. All of those possibilities have antique furniture and other interior design pieces that can be perfect for your home.

Dark kitchens? Believe it or not, but white might just have to take a backseat to darker hues in the kitchen. Blacks, dark grays, and navy are expected to be particularly popular. There are also experts who believe natural woods are going to come back as well. If that is true, then you have something that can be paired up flawlessly with some of those dark hues we just mentioned!

When it comes to colour, go bold. We believe bolder colours are going to be popular amongst homeowners in 2018 – so say goodbye to neutral tones. You will want to learn more about the potential of colours like bold reds, vivid blues and vibrant greens. Use 2018 as an opportunity to do some pretty amazing, even funky things with colour. If you don’t want to paint anything, look to incorporate these bold colours into a room with things like rugs, a throw pillows, or even blankets.

Wide-plank wood. Wider planks have been enjoying renewed popularity in recent years. That popularity is set to explode for 2018 and beyond. With wide planks, you have something that can go a long way towards creating a rustic, even vintage look. “Rustic” and “vintage” are words you can expect to hear more and more, as the year goes on. There are a lot of different ways in which one can invite a vintage or rustic look into their home. Wide-plank wood represents one of the most straightforward, affordable options available to you.

The return of the global trend. The global trend is one of those things that seems to come on strong, go away for a little while, and then resume full force with our interest. If we know anything about interior design, trust us when we tell you that the global trend is going to make a huge comeback in 2018. Hand-crafted textiles and black/white tribal patterns are just two examples of what we are talking about. Throwing these things against an earthy tone can let you enjoy everything this trend has to offer.

These are just a few of the 2018 interior design trends that you want to look out for. For example, you can expect the Scandi trend to be a big deal for the coming year. It can be a great way to combine contemporary furniture with mid-century inspirations. Black finishes are also expected to be popular this year.

However, at the end of the day, the important thing to remember is that personality trumps everything. In other words, a trend is only going to do so much for your home. What you will need to do is find a way to bring that trend together with your unique taste. When you’re looking for design inspiration for your home, Improve Canada has a number of showrooms that feature the latest interior design trends you’ll want to bring into your home.
